At present, there are 4 agencies, 6 departments, and one board working under the Ministry of Industries. The Indian Standards Institute was established in 1947 in the subcontinent. In 1958, more than a decade after the end of colonial rule in 1947, the Pakistan Standards Institute (PSI) was established in what was then Pakistan. Earlier, the Central Testing Laboratory (CTL) was established in Dhaka in 1956 under the Colombo Plan. PSI’s office was established in Dhaka in 1983. After independence in Bangladesh, CTL, and BDSI, these two organizations functioned as separate entities in their respective responsibilities.
